With massive disengagement from politics and distrust in political parties, many consumers are beginning to look for other ways to make their opinions felt. DO is a way for the public to influence the way large corporations think and act.
Corporate Social Responsibility is becoming a big issue for large companies. The penny has dropped amongst an increasing number of business leaders that operating in a sustainable way is critical to their long term survival.
Many companies have a diversity policy and put money into charitable projects. Quite often though, they fail to address the single biggest issue that determines their impact on society and the environment: changing the way their core business operates.
DO is an initiative aimed at business leaders, entrepreneurs and innovators. We're offering these people a public platform where they can commit to organisational change and be judged by the consequences. DO gives these guys their next big challenge: making the world a better, fairer place. Everybody wins - businesses get to show how they're changing, while the rest of us can see if they're putting their money where their mouth is. Key to this is a timescale that business leaders must commit to in delivering their change objective.
On the DO website members of the public can check who has delivered on their promises - and who hasn't. They can also vote for the issues that are most important to them thereby informing the choices of businesses as to the issues consumers care about.
