Our Work

Famelab

Background

A national competition to find the 'new faces of science' - tomorrow's science media stars.

Brief

The UK is failing to produce the next generation of media faces who can communicate and inspire excitement in science. Science is still regarded as geeky and the preserve of dusty old white guys with sticky-up hair.

Solution

Working in partnership with Channel 4, Pfizer, Nesta and The Daily Telegraph, Famelab is a national competition to identify and groom science communicators. Enable created a funky site to support the project from the initial heats through to the grand finals. The winner gets a masterclass in science communication, the chance to appear on Channel 4 and a cash prize of £2000.

We're also helping FameLab to create an opted-in community of people interested in popular science with whom they can develop a dialogue as the brand gets established.

Results

During the initial qualifying heats over 25,000 people visited the site, generating hundreds of competition entries and big audiences. The FameLab community continues to grow, with significant percentage opting into further communications ready for next years' competition.
