Our Work
UCAS
Background
The UCAS website is one of the best used websites in the UK and in a move to 100% online applications, it is critical the site ensures effective communication between UCAS and its various customers. Enable were commissioned to review the quality of the users' experience as they journey through the site and make recommendations on improving it.
Brief
The UCAS website provides a wealth of content for users, copy targeted to all its core user groups, as well as a range of useful interactive services. Our brief was to make recommendations that would maximise the usability of the UCAS website, whilst realising UCAS' brand and strategic objectives.
Solution
Before we carried out the review, we learned about the UCAS users and what they want to achieve on the site. We explored their motivations and their characteristics as well as learning about the organisation itself. We were then able to draw on expert knowledge to make judgements and predictions, using our knowledge of User Interface Design guidelines and specialist evaluation techniques including cognitive walkthroughs and heuristic evaluations.
Results
Usability offers a clear return on investment and our recommendations have been fed into an 18 month Change Programme which will enhance the usability of the site and provide a digital offering that is both simple to use and highly satisfying.
